Side Upper Berth
Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC
Seat 8
Positioned along the side corridor wall directly above the Side Lower (SL) berth. Offers unmatched privacy, zero intrusion from cabin foot traffic, and dedicated luggage space.

Full-day sleeping rights — you never have to fold down your bed for sitting co-passengers.
Best for: Solo travelers, light sleepers & passengers who want private rest.
UB
Upper Berth
Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC
Seat 3
The top-most bed inside the main cabin bay. Safe from luggage shuffling and corridor movement, providing great peace of mind and reading comfort.
🕒 IRCTC Daytime & Sleeping Rule:
Always open for sleeping 24/7. No requirement to share space during day hours.
Best for: Young travelers, backpackers & anyone who likes undisturbed reading or sleep.

Lower Berth
Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, 1AC
Seat 1
The bottom-most berth in the main cabin (seats 1, 4, 9, 12, etc.). Close to under-seat luggage storage with spacious window view.

Shared sitting space between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM for Lower, Middle, and Upper berth travelers.
Best for: Senior citizens, travelers with mobility needs, pregnant women, and families.

Side Lower Berth

Seat 7
Runs along the corridor window (seats 7, 15, 23, 31, etc.). By day, folds into two passenger chairs facing a center snack table.

Shared during the day (6 AM – 10 PM) between assigned passengers (usually SL and RAC co-passenger).
Best for: Window lovers, scenic day routes & solo travelers.
MB
Middle Berth
Sleeper, 3AC
Seat 2
Suspended between lower and upper berths in Sleeper and 3AC compartments. Must be chained up at night and folded flat during daytime.
🕒 IRCTC Daytime & Sleeping Rule:
Allowed for sleeping only between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM per official IRCTC rules. Must be lowered by day.
Best for: Budget travelers comfortable with climbing a short ladder at bedtime.

Side Middle Berth
3E (AC 3 Economy) & Garib Rath
Seat 8
Positioned between Side Lower and Side Upper along the corridor. Introduced in modern 3E coaches (M1, M2...) to expand coach capacity to 83 berths.
